A grand opening ceremony was held on June 29th, 2023 to mark the official opening of the new splash pad, playground equipment and the newly named W.P. Foster Park, formerly Sherwood Park.
On June 29th, 2023, Mayor Gervais was accompanied by fellow Council Members, residents, staff and the Foster family to officially mark the opening of the new and improved W.P. Foster Park. A proposal submitted by the Lions Club in early 2023 to rename Sherwood Park after the late Bill Foster, lifelong community volunteer and former Deputy Mayor, was approved by Council at its regular meeting on February 28th, 2023. Foster dedicated much of his life to the community, serving as an executive member of the Lions Club where he initiated and spearheaded many of the club's endeavours, all toward the betterment of the community and its residents. The new and improved park features new playground equipment and the new splash pad which is open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. The Town is very grateful for its sponsors who made this project possible: Espanola Lions Club ($25,000), Espanola Laundromat, JT Industrial Ltd. ($10,000 +), Espanola Clinic Pharmacy, Garnet’s Rentals Sales & Service and Excel Contracting Solutions Inc. ($1,000 +).
