Outdoor & Indoor Recreation

RECREATION DEPARTMENT MISSION STATEMENT

To strengthen community inclusion and equity through programs, services, parks and facilities that promote healthy lifestyles, connect families and neighbours, recognize culture and heritage; thereby enriching the quality of life in Espanola and our surrounding areas.

Outdoor recreational amenities under the umbrella of the Town of Espanola include playgrounds, the Clear Lake Beach, a track and field, soccer and ball fields, tennis and pickle ball courts and an outdoor skating rink.

The Espanola Regional Recreation Complex is a hub for indoor activities featuring an accessible salt water pool, fitness gym, arena, and squash court all housed in one building attached to the Espanola Public Library and adjacent to the track & field.

Council adopted the Espanola Active Community Charter in the spring of 2011 and the Espanola Recreation Master Plan in 2017 to support and guide the development of Recreation.

News and Notices

In September 2024, the Town of Espanola was pleased to announce itself as the recipient of $58,100 in funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF), which allowed the Town to replace the Espanola Regional Recreation Complex’s MUA-1 air intake unit to help enhance air quality and temperature in the facility’s changerooms. This generous funding provided by OTF will help to sustain Complex operations for the next 20-25 years.

Town of Espanola Mayor, Councilors, and Staff stand with MPP Michael Mantha on the pool deck at the Espanola Recreation Complex.

MPP Mantha and Mayor Gervais shake hands in front of plaque installed to recognize OTF funding for HVAC unit.

Plaque reads: With Grateful Appreciation to the Ontario Trillium Foundation. Thank you for your meaningful investment in the Espanola Regional Recreation Complex which is helping our community thrive.
