Swimming Lessons
Whether you're a parent wishing to enroll your child in swimming lessons, a teen wishing to become an instructor or lifeguard, or an adult looking to improve your own swimming skills, the Espanola Regional Recreation Complex has the program for you. We offer quality programs through the Red Cross and The Lifesaving Society to meet all of your needs.
Conversion from Red Cross to Lifesaving Society Swim Lesson Info
As of January 2023 the Red Cross is passing on their swim lesson programs to the Lifesaving Society in order to focus on humanitarian needs. See the conversion chart below to identify where your child will place in the new program.

2023 Program Descriptions
Parent & Tots
Opportunity for your child under the age of 5 to interact with their peers in the water. Parents & Tots are limited to the use of the wade pool, and may only use the lap pool after approval from a lifeguard.
Fitlanes
Swimmers to swim in a loop style in appropriate lane (slow/medium/fast) to maximize lane usage. Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
Recreation Swims
Diving Board Available.
Children 6 years of age or younger must be accompanied by a parent, guardian or designate who is at least 16 years of age and is responsible for their direct supervision and must be within arm's reach at all times. Lifejackets must be worn whenever water depth is over child’s head.
Children 7 to 9 years of age must pass a "facility swim test" to be admitted without caregiver (caregiver must remain on pool deck until child passes facility swim test)..
Children 7 to 9 years of age who cannot pass the facility swim test must wear a lifejacket in water over their head and be accompanied by a parent, guardian or designate who is at least 16 years of age and is responsible for their direct supervision.
To successfully pass the facility swim test individuals must:
- Demonstrate comfort in water
- Swim a minimum of 2 widths continuously in shallow water.
Aqua fitness
Float in the deep-end or stay in the shallow end! Participate in a 45 minute water workout. Follow up with 15 minutes in the swirl pool or sauna or push yourself further with laps.
Diaperfit
Attention new parents! An ongoing class and fitness splash for parents or caregivers with babies from 6 months to 2 years old. Babies float and play in a safety approved baby seat while caregivers exercise. A social time for babies and a workout time for caregivers. Both the main pool and wade pool are accessible. An Aquatic Wheelchair and Walker is available.

- Toddlers who are not yet toilet trained must wear little swimmer
