With a population of just over 5,000 and a 45 minute drive to the City of Greater Sudbury and Manitoulin Island, the Town of Espanola is a welcoming community that serves as the regional retail, health and service hub for the LaCloche/Manitoulin region.

As a result of an impending retirement and the reorganization of administration responsibilities, the Town of Espanola has an opportunity available for the position of Treasurer.

The Treasurer is  responsible for the effective and efficient fiscal management of the Town by providing expert financial advice to the CAO-Clerk, the management team and Council. You will execute the statutory duties of Treasurer under the Municipal Act; lead budget preparation and monitoring; oversee the Town’s insurance and risk management program and the Town’s asset management plan.

Qualifications:

  • 5 years of Municipal Financial Experience.
  • Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related field (CA/CPA/CGA/CMA).
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills regarding personal computers, data entry, software programs (Vadim, OPTA), and corporate records management systems.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • High level of confidentiality, strong interpersonal communications and customer service skills with the ability to effectively communicate complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Proficient in financial software systems and Microsoft Office suite.
  • Knowledge of Ontario municipal finance legislation, policies, and regulations.

Salary Range: $108,776 to $130,534 (under review), a condensed work week, a comprehensive benefits package and OMERS Pension Plan.
