Council Rundown

March 28, 2023

Consent Agenda

The March 28, 2023 Regular Meeting of Council Consent Agenda featured a number of the typical departmental reports and minutes of past meetings. Other highlights included:

  • The contract for Household Hazardous Waste Day, which will be on April 29, 2023, was awarded to GFL Environmental Services Inc. who now owns Drain-All. GFL was the only bidder.
  • The passing of the official Bylaw to appoint Marc Leclair as Chief Building Official (CBO), replacing long-time CBO, Mr. Dan Rivet.

Land-use Planning Matters

The Regular Agenda featured two decision items. The first being conveyance application B06/23, to transfer 0.08 hectares of land from one property to an abutting property near the south end of Yusko Crescent owned by the same owner. The application was approved and provides the owner with the lot fabric they desire on their abutting property to submit further development applications. The subject lands are currently zoned Rural (RU) and will require a Zoning Bylaw Amendment, at minimum, to permit multi-residential development to continue in that area. As mentioned in the agenda materials, the developer is proposing to build three 5-plexes in this area, directly east of the southern endpoint of Yusko Crescent. Public consultation will occur according to the requirements of the Planning Act as applications are submitted. Notices of public meetings relating to this potential zoning bylaw amendment will be posted in the Around & About at least 20 days prior to the public meeting as per Planning Act requirements.

The second item was a bylaw to finalize the naming of remaining portions of Yusko Crescent that had not yet been fully completed. The road work and water and sewer infrastructure for Yusko Crescent has been finalized and the Town will be officially taking ownership of the roadway.

Mayor and Councillor Announcements

Councillor Massicotte mentioned that the Town is putting on a three on three hockey tournament at the Recreation Complex on Easter Weekend (April 6th – 9th). Registration for the tournament closed at 26 teams with 5 age divisions. The kitchen will be open upstairs at the complex throughout the tournament and the bar will be open from 6-10pm on Friday, April 7th and from 3-8pm on Saturday, April 8th.

The Mayor expressed appreciation to staff for an education session provided for residents of Yusko Crescent on land-use planning application processes that took place earlier this week in light of recent discussions and Council deliberations relating to development in that area.
