Message from Mayor, Council and the Corporation of the Town of Espanola

September 30th, 2022 marks the second National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This is a day to reflect on the painful and lasting impacts of residential schools in Canada, and to honour survivors, their families, and their communities. It is also a day to remember the many children who never returned home, and an opportunity for us all to learn more. As was demonstrated last year with the uncovering of mass graves at former residential school sites across Canada, there are aspects of this terrible history that have yet to be acknowledged and as neighbours, we have an important role to play in being there for our Indigenous friends and family.

The Town of Espanola extends our deepest respect to our Anishinabek neighbours, First Nation and Métis members of our community and to all Indigenous Peoples.
