June 29, 2021

The Government of Canada and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities announced on June 29, 2021 that the Town of Espanola is receiving $1,276,500 through the Green Municipal Fund (GMF) for its biosolids management and digester optimization. Funds will be allocated  by loan in the amount of $1,110,000 and by grant in the amount of $166,500. This funding will allow for the upgrading of the Town’s wastewater treatment plant by installing Geotube dewatering technology and constructing a building for winter processing. Significant environmental benefits can include reduced transportation of biosolids and beneficial use of biosolids to improve agricultural productivity. This shift in biosolids management is anticipated to result in economic and risk mitigation benefits.
