Council Rundown
December 10, 2024
The Regular Meeting of Council of December 10, 2024 featured a number of annual financial items for approval and one item pertaining to the Community Improvement Plan.
Community Improvement Plan
Council approved a recommendation from staff to pause the intake of any new development applications to the Community Improvement Plan’s (CIP) incremental tax relief grant. With an expected $529,009.93 of relief expected from 2025 to 2030, supporting over 20 new residential units in the Town including subsidized, accessible and seniors housing, this grant under the CIP has helped build momentum in the Town over the past 10 years and projects are already slated to proceed in its absence. Upon the development of the Town’s next Strategic Plan, staff will revisit opening the program with Council.
Financial Item Highlights
Council approved the annual cost of living increase for non-union staff salaries at the same level as the Town’s two labour partners CUPE 4705 and CUPE 534.
Council did not take the annual cost of living increase for their own salaries, approving a 0% increase.
Other items approved included the updated Water and Sewer Fee Bylaw highlighting increases previously communicated to the public effective January 1st, 2025 and the Tariff and Fees Bylaw which regulates the various user and service fees that the Town charges for its services.
Municipal Liability Insurance and Risk Management Services
Council approved the renewal of the Town’s 2025 Insurance and Risk Management Services. The Town’s insurance overall will be up 13.5% over 2024 for a total of $244,825.20 including non-rebatable taxes.
