The Regular Meeting of Council on September 24th, 2024 featured two major items and was followed by a Special Meeting which included additional public items and a closed session.
Recommendation regarding 2025 Budget Guidelines and Timetable
Council approved the 2025 budget process as presented. It is expected that budget deliberations will commence in November for an approval of the budget in early 2025.
Recommendation regarding Connecting Link Phase 4 Design and Contract Administration
Council approved that the design and contract administration services for the next phase of Centre Street reconstruction (Station Road to Tudhope Street) be delivered by RV Anderson as presented for $423,000. The Town expects to tender for the construction contract in the coming months for award of tender before the holiday season. Construction is expected to begin in Spring of 2025. In 2023, the grant application estimated the entire project to be valued at $5,223,103 (not including HST). The Connecting Link Grant provides up to $3,000,000 in eligible costs, but does not include costs associated with water and sewer infrastructure.
Assistant Superintendent of Public Works
Council approved a motion to create a new/re-instate an Assistant Superintendent of Public Works position. The posting will open on the week of October 7th, 2024, with interviews expected in late November with hope of having the new employee begin in early January 2025. The posting will appear in local newspapers, the Town’s website, LinkedIn and will be shared with relevant sector organization job boards.
Committee Appointments
New Council Member, Cheryl Kennelly, was appointed to the Corporate Services Committee, the Library Board and the Committee of Adjustment/Property Standards.
