Expressions of Interest for Council Vacancy
During the Regular Meeting of Council of June 25, 2024, one (1) Councillor position was declared vacant.
The Municipal Act, 2001, S.O. 2001, c. 25, Subsection 263 (1) requires that the Municipality shall:
(a) fill the vacancy by appointing a person who has consented to accept the office if appointed; or
(b) require a by-election to be held to fill the vacancy in accordance with the Municipal Elections Act, 1996. 2001, c. 25, s. 263 (1).
Following the decision of Council to fill the vacancy by appointment, the Town of Espanola accepted applications to appoint one (1) vacant Councillor position for the remainder of the 2022 – 2026 term of Council.
The Council Vacancy Selection Committee, comprised of Mayor Gervais, Deputy Mayor Kelly and Councillor Kallioinen met to review the applications and prepare a recommendation to Council to appoint an individual to fill the vacant council seat. During the Special Meeting of Council of August 13, 2024 the following resolution was adopted: "Be It Resolved That: As Recommended by the Council Vacancy Selection Committee That: Cheryl Kennelly be appointed to fill the vacant council seat for the remainder of the 2022-2026 term of council."
Councillor Kennelly took the Declaration of Oath during the Regular Meeting of Council of September 10, 2024.
