Membership and Borrowing

All patrons are required to use their own personal library card in order to borrow, renew or place holds on library materials. The Espanola Public Library cannot allow friends, family members, spouses or any other person to use someone else’s library card on their behalf. This includes renewing items, placing holds, borrowing items or picking up items.

The Espanola Public Library does not currently charge for overdue fines. (This excludes overdue fees for interlibrary loans and parks passes.)

Should a patron wish to borrow a material that is not currently in the Espanola Public Library's collection, an interlibrary loan request can be made. Interlibrary loan is a service that allows the Espanola Public Library to borrow materials from other participating libraries for a designated period of time.

In order to place an interlibrary loan request, patrons must fill out an individual request form in person for each material they wish to borrow. Patrons may make a total of 2 interlibrary loan requests per month. If the item has been published within the last calendar year, interlibrary loan service is not an option and the request shall be forwarded to the order request list instead.

If a patron wishes to renew their item, they must request to do so well in advance of the due date as the lending library will need time to respond to the renewal request, and the lending library may also say no. 

Should a patron wish to borrow a material from the library collection that is currently checked out, a hold may be placed on the item to reserve it upon return to the library. Holds may be placed online, in person or through telephone with verification of your library card number. Once the item has been returned to the library, a staff member will contact the card holder to notify them of the available material(s).

The order request list is available for patrons to make new book requests or recommendations for materials they would like the library to order and add to our collection. In order to make your request, please speak to a staff member or phone the library. Patrons must be a valid library member to make order requests. Orders can take up to several months to arrive at the library. If the item requested does get purchased, the patron who made the request will be notified of the items availability when it is available. If you made a request on this list and chose to purchase the item before receiving a phone call, please notify the library so we may remove the material from the request list.
